ak1200front_500

The godfather of Drum & Bass in America, AK has been the link between the music and the fans and DJ’s alike in the United States ever since its inception. He is the longest running DnB DJ in the USA, and was the first to give exposure to the hundreds of UK-based DJ’s and producers. His annual Planet Of The Drums tour, alongside fellow comrades Dieselboy and Dara with frontman Messinian, has been the most successful running electronica tour since it began in 2000.

Over the years AK has released 8 mix CD’s, and 1 artist album along with several singles. He has remixed countless well know electronic acts such as Crystal Method, Rabbit in the Moon, Keoki, Dub Pistols, Cirrus, Freestyle, Rachel Wallace, A Tribe Called Quest, and many more. His remix of Cleveland Lounge’s Drowning was in regular rotation on radio stations all over the USA and is widely viewed as the most well known DnB tune in America, and was on dance charts all over the world. His A&R work with longtime friend Rob Playford on the legendary Moving Shadow label has helped make AK one of the most influential DnB figures on the globe.

60Hz: DJ C

Posted by TMM On April - 13 - 2009

60hz_20090513

60Hz is back at it…This time with Chicago-by-way-of-Boston’s own DJ C!!!! Make sure to peep this night as the damage will come from all angles and all hemispheres!

DJ C - Mashit / Joystixx

Beat producer, party scientist, and remixer of artists from M.I.A. to Gregory Isaacs, DJ C continues to spread his fiercely eclectic gospel of bass-heavy, bounced-up dancefloor-blends across the land.

He’s been pumping out a series of records on labels around the globe including a remix of M.I.A.’s U.R.A.Q.T. for XL Recordings, as well as singles/remixes for Ninja Tune, Soul Jazz, Modular, Tigerbeat6, and his own Mashit imprint; sharing the groves in those records with the likes of Sinden, Stereotyp, Crookers, The Bug, Kid606, Warrior Queen, Drop The Lime, Ghislain Poirier, Serj Tankian and many more. Back in ‘04 legendary BBC Radio 1 host John Peel chose Mashit as a “label of the month” and featured a DJ C mix of Mashit tracks. Since then his tunes and DJ sets have continued to evolve into ever-more devastating dance-floor monsters.

with support from

Tranzformer - Prankstas

Cringer - Dubfront / Part Time Suckers / 60Hz

Bass Goes Boom: 2009-05-01

EMALKAY, UK | Boka Records / Dub Police

Big, bad, heavy: three simple words to describe the sound of one of dubstep’s most complex artists, Emalkay. Certainly no stranger when it comes to playing left field, Emalkay takes his own innovative style to a whole other level!

With support from the likes of Amon Tobin, The Scratch Perverts, Freq-nasty and Mary Anne Hobbs, as well as prominent dubsteppers Benga and N-type, Emalkay has proven himself to be one of the most influential pioneers of the heavier dubstep sound.

With initial support in the form of grime veteran Plastician, “Birmingham’s finest” Emalkay - pronounced em-al-kay - gained the attention of South London based label Boka Records with the warped, future bass drones and epic strings of Gut Feeling. Continuing the success, Testing The Waters EP was released in October 2006 followed by Monsters in June 2007.

The revolutionary sound of Mecha, released in the fall of 2007, gained Emalkay support from the likes of Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs and breakbeat pioneer FreQ Nasty, as well as many of the leading figures of the current dubstep scene. It seemed Emalkay’s own potential as a pivotal dubstep artist was finally being realised. His final release on Boka Records was the reggae influenced My Story in April 2008.

In the fall of 2008, Emalkay produced Explicit - a tune that gradually captured the interest of such prominent dubsteppers as Benga and received major support from acts such as The Scratch Perverts and drum and bass duo Chase and Status. After being approached by Caspa however, the track was finally released on the Dub Police label in February 2009 after much anticipation.

JEEKOOS, CHI | PTS / Dubfront / Filthy Digital / WNUR

With his roots in hip-hop and jungle/dnb, When dubstep caught up with him, with its slower pace but equivalent intensity, gnarly basslines and attention to detail, the incorporation of it into his sets and production style was only natural. As his sound evolves and his skills flourish, Jeekoos stays deeply involved in the Chicago dubstep scene. Respect to tha Wubmaster!

Gritty In The City

Posted by TMM On April - 7 - 2009

Last year we held off on having a party… we tried but its a hard task finding a venue that will fit all of M.I.A.s needs.
One room that needs to be loud and not be real huge.(and we found one that we may possibly use on a regular basis.) This is a RSVP only event and you must send us a email at miachicago@gmail.com to get directions to the event.
